Marion Street Sings with Veterans, Raises Funds for Peaceful Minds
Lynbrook students take part in patriotic festivities.

Second-grade students at the Lynbrook Public Schools’ Marion Street Elementary School held a special assembly for guest veterans and family members on Feb. 27, when they presented a Patriotic Sing-along.
For months leading up to the celebration, students wrote letters to veterans thanking them for their contributions. Classes discussed the important roles that servicemen and women play in supporting our country. Students also participated in a weeklong fundraiser for Peaceful Minds, an organization that provides wellness programs and resources for veterans.
Many of the second-graders invited relatives or family friends who are veterans or currently active in the military to take part in the musical tribute. Among the songs that the children performed were “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” “This is My Country,” “This Land is Your Land,” “Yankee Doodle” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” The students also explained what they have learned about being American citizens and expressed appreciation to all those who joined them for the song dedication.
