New Details Emerge On Day Massapequa Student Died After Being Struck By LIRR Train: Police
A 17-year-old girl was struck by a train earlier this week, and the investigation is ongoing, police say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — New details have emerged related to the 17-year-old girl who died after being struck by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Massapequa station on Monday, police said.
Nassau County police said the teenager's Massapequa school filed a missing persons report the day of the incident, June 8, after she ran out of the school.
Massapequa Superintendent of Schools William Brennan shared a letter to the district stating one of their high school seniors "has unexpectedly passed away."

The District gave its condolences to the family and friends during this tragic time. Part of the letter reads:
"As many of you know, our community has faced difficult losses before, and during those times we found comfort and strength in one another. We will need that same compassion and support in the days ahead as we navigate this heartbreaking loss together.

The statement also shared resources, such as the YES Community Counseling Center and Northwell Health's Pediatric Urgent Care Unit.
At approximately 2:33 p.m., LIRR Train 163 with scheduled service from Babylon to Penn Station struck the teen, who was not authorized to be on the tracks at the Massapequa station, the MTA Police Department said.
The Massapequa teen was pronounced deceased at the scene by Nassau County EMTs at 2:55 p.m, the MTAPD said.
There were no reported injuries to the 150 passengers on the train or the train crew, according to MTAPD.
The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
