The Fleeting

Gift Of Time

I wonder about many things; too many, most likely.

However, I do have to question why so many of my fellow pilgrims relate more to yesterdays than the current moments we now bravely share.

Why is it so important who we once were and what we achieved in our yesterdays?

Isn’t it far more interesting who and what we have now become?

Perhaps we are without the formidable baggage of possessions we once treasured but we are still blissfully intact and capable of questioning of who, what, why and where? The complicated world we currently share certainly has a vast quota of unique problems waiting to be solved, discussed and lingered over.

As days dwindle by, slowly and surely the music of yesteryear grows in majesty along with the nuggets of achievement that seem to magnify with intensity. The loves, laughter and liasons that once verged on insignificant become monumental in memory retrieved.

Personally, I value an evening spent with a kindred soul who will speak not of yesterday’s achievements or travels, but their current interests and activities. I find intense pleasure in meeting new people, and learning what intrigues them.

Possibly I am alone in this opinion, but I believe everyone has a before that has fled into the parchment pages of mere recollection. I question why those of us who have survived to walk the perilous path we share daily linger so long unearthing tattered memories.

There can be no return to the nebulous comfort of what has ended as much as we would wish for it.

Those we knew and loved, but who have left without us may ever live in our hearts. Still they provide little interest to others who never knew them or have little need for their belated acquaintance.

Admittedly, It is difficult to manipulate the twisting, turning juncture in the complicated road we currently travel. I wish I could deny that reality, but I must wonder how we can make it more intriguing.

If we have the courage to gaze ahead rather than constantly looking back over our shoulders with rose colored glasses, we might be amazed by what we now view.

The curving road we currently encounter provides an amazing view. When we gaze ahead we are blessed to enjoy the distinctive blue of an endless sky, feel the undeniable warmth of a noonday sun, and exult in the utter wonder of a full moon. Obviously there will be unexpected curves, and pitfalls as we turn each corner, but yesterday had more of those than most of us care to recite.

Today will soon become another yesterday, and who knows, perhaps another memory to cherish and one we reluctantly refuse to relinquish.

Meanwhile let’s hasten to embrace this fleeting gift of time before it, too, vanishes.
