Nassau Man Shot At People He Was Arguing With: Police

Police say he fired two shots at people during an argument, but didn't hit either of them.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — A Massapequa man was arrested on Thursday after police say a man fired shots at two others and threatened to kill them.

According to police, officers responded to a call for shots fired at 10:14 p.m. on Thursday in Massapequa. When the officers arrived, two victims told them that they had been in argument with John Thompson, 49, of Oakley Avenue, police said. Thompson allegedly told the two that he was going to kill them, then pulled out a black handgun and fire two shots into the ground near them. He then went back into his apartment, police said.

After an investigation, the officers arrested Thompson without incident. Police say they recovered a loaded black handgun and shell casings near where the incident happened, as well as a shell casing in Thompson's back pocket. No one was injured.

Thompson was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and two counts of menacing. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 5 in First District Court in Hempstead.
