Sixth Grader Wins Massapequa Geography Bee
He'll now have a chance to compete in the state-wide geography bee in Albany.
Twenty-three students squared off in the Berner Middle School auditorium on Jan. 14 to test their knowledge of national and world geography. After nine rounds, sixth-grader William Stebner emerged as the winner. He will now take a qualifying test for a chance to represent the Massapequa School District at the state geography bee in Albany.
All Berner students took an online geography test, and the highest scorer for each social studies teacher competed in the school-wide bee. Topics included state capitals, international landmarks and map skills. William and eighth-grader Ricky Chen competed in the final round, which featured three questions.
The geography bee was coordinated by social studies teachers Maria Casale, Josee Charvet and William Chlystun.
