Merrick kicks off the holidays this weekend with a Christmas tree lighting, menorah lighting, and a visit from Santa Claus.
The big weekend begins Saturday at 11 a.m. as Santa makes a special stop at the Merrick gazebo near the LIRR station. Santa will hitch a ride on a Merrick Fire Department truck and will be ready to take photos with children.
The celebration continues Sunday with the annual tree and menorah lightings. At 6 p.m., residents can gather to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate, listen to local Girl Scouts sing holiday songs, and hear guest speakers ring in the holiday.
