North Merrick Bond Referendum: What You Need to Know

Details on the North Merrick School District bond referendum up for voter approval May 19.

North Merrick Schools have added a bond referendum for several improvements to the ballot for the May 19 vote.

The bond proposal totals $14,650,000, which works out to an average of $127.55 per year - or $10.63 per month - per household for 15 years, according to the district.

Two informational meetings will be held May 5 at 10 a.m. and May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Harold D. Fayette General Purpose Room.

  • Abandon all existing 92-year-old steam lines and install new lines with a hot water heating system

  • Enhance building security
  • Repair all damaged masonry and lintels
  • Total cost: $6,462,276

Harold D. Fayette School

  • Replace boilers and associated heating equipment
  • Replace all existing univents
  • Replace all exterior windows
  • Air-condition cafeteria/general purpose room
  • Enhance building security
  • Repair all damaged masonry and lintels
  • Total cost: $4,036,469

Old Mill Road School

  • Replace boilers and associated heating equipment
  • Replace all existing univents
  • Replace all exterior windows
  • Air-condition gymnasium/auditorium
  • Replace bus loop asphalt and adjacent concrete
  • Enhance building security
  • Total cost: $4,151,255
