MERRICK, NY — The North Merrick School District announced a new member of its leadership this week, making Meghan Dixon the new principal at Old Mill Road’s new principal.

Dixon was most recently the John Lewis Childs School assistant principal, in the Floral Park-Bellerose district, serving as the assistant principal at Lindenhurst’s Daniel Street Elementary and PS24Q, the Andrew Jackson School, in Flushing, Queens before that.

District officials said Dixon has been a grade-level teacher and special education teacher in charters and New York City public schools, supporting “diverse student populations, including students with disabilities and English language learners.”

For Dixon, the new role could be summed up in one word: Honored.

“I am honored and excited to join the North Merrick Schools community and serve as Old Mill Road’s principal,” Dixon said. “Together, we will continue to foster a school culture centered on collaboration, belonging and academic excellence.”

Prior to beginning her teaching career, Dixon earned a bachelor of science in childhood education and a master of science in special education, both from Long Island University. She graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA, district officials said.

For superintendent Dr. Cynthia Seniuk, the introduction of a new face in North Merrick school leadership is something to look forward to.

“We are happy to welcome Ms. Dixon to her new role and look forward to the leadership, collaborative experience and dedication she will bring to the school community,” Seniuk said.

Dixon will take over her position on July 1.
