2 NY Towns Recognized For Charming Lakes: Report
The two locales are filled with other non-lake-related activities as well.

The days may be getting a little cooler, but locales around New York remain beautiful year-round. Orbitz, the travel-facilitating website, looked at towns around the United States with lakes and came up with a list that their editors called "12 of America's Most Charming Lake Towns."
On that exclusive list, only three states had more than one location: Michigan, California and — which should surprise no one — New York.
Orbitz said the lake towns on the list offered "under-the-radar" serene settings and plenty of activities for adults and children.

The first of the New York's lake towns on this list was Aurora in the Finger Lakes region.
Besides its 11 lakes and more than 40 waterfalls, the area is filled with nearby wineries and craft breweries.

Orbitz suggests starting with exploring Watkins Glen State Park for hiking and Seneca Lake for fishing.
Second and closer to home was Monticello in Sullivan County in the storied Catskill Mountains.
Not only is there hiking, camping and fishing, if you get tired of the outdoors, you have Resorts World Catskills Casino and Resort, Monticello Raceway and Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun, which offers winter skiing and summer activities, depending on the time of year.
We'd be remiss if we didn't mention that New York is heading into prime leaf-peeping season now. Check out a recent article that will help you determine when and where the leaves are starting to turn colors.
