More Thunderstorms: Poughkeepsie's Weekend Weather

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The mini-heat wave continues on Friday and once again there is a chance for thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening across the Hudson Valley. And if you have outdoor plans this weekend, and we know you want to get outside, Saturday is by far the better day as we could see rain and cloudy skies on Sunday.

"In the wake of Friday’s gusty storms, showers are expected to spread across the northeastern United States this weekend," said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski. "Outdoor plans will once again be in jeopardy, especially on Sunday."

Temperatures will still be above normal Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Then they will drop more on Sunday to "seasonable levels."

Here's what the National Weather Service forecasts for mid-Hudson Valley:

• Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 1am. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. West wind 6 to 8 mph.
• Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
• Sunday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 67. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Sunday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
