New Airline Coming to Stewart International Means Connection to Europe

Norwegian Air just got approval to provide service from two new U.S. airports.

NEW WINDSOR, NY — Want to fly to Europe but you don’t relish the idea of catching a plane at JFK or Newark?

By mid-2017, flights to Ireland could leave from Stewart International Airport via Norwegian Air, according to an article at the Wall Street Journal.

The federal Department of Transportation gave the OK for the airline to expand its service to Stewart International in Orange County and another site in New Hampshire or Rhode Island.

The flights — at least at the beginning — will be real bargains at $69 each way, with travel season costs averaging $300 to $350 for a round trip, Conde Nast Traveler said.

Tickets costs are low for Norwegian Air because it has an a la carte pricing model, meaning travelers get to pay for food, bags and such on overseas flights.

The chairman of the Stewart Airport Commission, Louis Heimbach, said the announcement was great news for the area.

He said that this will appeal to businesses and tourists who might not need to have New York City as a destination, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
