Sen. Murphy Secures $14M To Fix Hudson Valley Roads

ALBANY, NY — New York Sen. Terrence Murphy has secured nearly $14 million in funds from the New York State Department of Transportation to help with some much needed road repair in the Hudson Valley, according to a press release from the NY Senate. The funding comes as a part of the 2018-2019 budget.

"This past winter has been a rough one, with local roads taking such a beating they resemble World War I battlefields," the press release began.

The money is part of the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, CHIPS, run by the Department of Transportation, as well as Extreme Winter Recovery (EWR) and Local PAVE-NY budgets, the release said. The total amount the 40th Senate District is getting is $13,945,241.63.

Westchester County is getting $7.3 million, Putnam County is getting $2.2 million and Dutchess County will see $4.5 million.

"Tourists, commuters, parents and school children travel our roads regularly and expect them to be safe and trouble-free," said Sen. Murphy, the press release says. "Good roads mean fewer car repairs for commuters, and are important to business activity and the continued growth of all our communities in the Hudson Valley."

"I'm glad to hear we will be receiving funding in this year's budget for extreme weather," said Peter Sciliano, Superintendent for the Mt. Pleasant Highway Department. "This year's winter was particularly harsh and hard on our roads. This funding will allow us to stay on top of needed and scheduled repair work."
