Port Authority Cops Save Man's Life In Bus Terminal Starbucks
Two officers revived a man with a defibrillator Monday morning.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Several Port Authority police officers saved the life of a man who went into cardiac arrest during the Monday morning rush hour at the bus terminal Starbucks, a Port Authority spokesman told Patch.
Officers Jessica Toritto and Rebekah Epley responded to the Starbucks in the south wing of the Port Authority Bust Terminal shortly after 10 a.m. and found a 55-year-old man unconscious, unresponsive and slumped back in a chair, a Porty Authority spokesman told Patch. The man's hands were cold, his face was discolored and police could not detect a pulse or signs of breathing, the spokesman said.
Four more Port Authority officers responded to the coffee shop and helped remove the man from his chair and onto the ground to begin CPR, a Porty Authority spokesman said. When chest compressions did not yield signs of a pulse, officers used an automated external defibrillator to apply one shock to the man.

After the shock, the man regained consciousness and began to breathe, a Port Authority spokesman told Patch. Officers stayed on scene and treated the man until EMS was able to take him to St. Luke's Hospital, a Port Authority spokesman told Patch.
EMS assessed that the man went into cardiac arrest and likely would have died if not for the actions of Port Authority cops, the spokesman said.
