Suffolk Dems Face Some Unexpected Upsets In Brookhaven Town
Two longtime incumbents appear to have lost their seats, according to unofficial results from the Suffolk County Board Of Elections.

YAPHANK, NY — There were some upsets Tuesday night as incumbent Democratic Suffolk County legislators across Brookhaven Town squared off against their Republican challengers, according to preliminary results from the Suffolk County Board of Elections.
Presiding Officer Rob Calarco, the leader of the Legislature's majority, faced Dominick Thorne, a Republican, in the race for the 7th Legislative District, which encompasses the greater Patchogue area, and the challenger emerged the apparent winner.
Thorne garnered 6,611 votes to Calarco's 5,627, with all 52 districts reporting as of 12:47 a.m.

As of 12:56 a.m. in the 6th Legislative District, Brendan Sweeney continued to lead Democratic Legis. Sarah Anker with 8,329 votes to her 7,141, and that of Conservative Anthony DiSimone's 1,488, with all 50 districts reporting.
Incumbents in other districts appeared to keep their posts.

As of 12:50 a.m., Republican Legis. James Mazzarella garnered 7,525 votes or 67 % of the vote to Browning's 3,708 with all 43 districts reporting.
In the 4th Legislative District, which includes the Sachem area, Republican Legis. Nick Caracappa continued to lead with 8,494 votes to Dawn Sharrock's 3,390, with 50 of 53 districts reporting as of 12:50 a.m.
In the 5th Legislative District, which includes the Three Village area, as well as Port Jefferson, Democratic Legis. Kara Hahn was still leading with 7,582 votes to Salvatore SB Isabella's 7,508, with all 54 districts reporting as of 1:19 a.m.
In eastern Brookhaven Town, legislators Al Krupski and Bridget Fleming squared off against challengers Remy Bell and Robert J. Carpenter III, in the 1st and 2nd LDs, respectively.
Krupski garnered 13,033, or 59%, of the votes, compared to Bell's 8,911, or 41 %.
Absentee ballots must still be counted in all races.
