Mount Vernon Police Make 2 Gun Arrests In 3 Days

Two guns were recovered by police and two suspects were taken into custody, one after after a brief foot chase.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — There are fewer guns on the streets of Mount Vernon thanks to the vigilance of Mount Vernon police.

Mount Vernon Police Department officers made two separate gun arrests in a three-day period this week. The first arrest came on Saturday, while police were investigating a man believed to be in possession of a handgun and the second on Tuesday, during a traffic stop.

The first arrest took place on Saturday afternoon when officers responded to reports of a man in possession of a firearm in a black BMW, on E. Sidney Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle matching the description and as they attempted to speak with the driver, he fled into the building at 40 E. Sidney with officers in pursuit.

He was quickly caught inside the building and a firearm was recovered. The firearm was found to be stolen out of North Carolina, according to police. The driver of the vehicle, Brian Gadsen, 36, of Mount Vernon, was arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail.

The second gun arrest took place Tuesday, around 5 p.m. and began as a traffic stop. Officers spotted a vehicle in violation of "several" traffic laws and stopped the vehicle. While the driver of the vehicle possessed a valid NYS driver’s license, his vehicle was unregistered due to an insurance lapse. A firearm was located inside the vehicle. The driver, Lawrence Broodie, 39, of Mount Vernon, was arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
