Mount Vernon Shooting Victim Found At Jacobi Medical Center

The victim refused to cooperate with detectives during an interview, according to Mount Vernon Police Department officials.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon police are investigating a shooting that left one man wounded.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Monday, Mount Vernon police officers were sent to South 7th Avenue and West 5th Street on a report of shots fired. Officers canvassed the area for a crime scene, evidence and witnesses, but found no traces of a shooting.

Roughly an hour later, the Mount Vernon Police Department was informed that a man arrived at the Jacobi Medical Center Emergency Room with a gunshot wound to the upper right leg.

Detectives went to Jacobi, but he refused to cooperate with investigators during an interview, according to the MVPD. The victim is said to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery from his injury.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department are working with the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force and Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center on this investigation.

Mount Vernon police are asking that anyone with information about the shooting contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411. Information can also be sent using the "Mount Vernon PD" app, available in the Google Play and Apple stores.
