MOUNT VERNON, NY — The NY Post is reporting that the teenage son of a top Mount Vernon police official was wounded in a gang-related shooting on a New York City bus.

Citing unnamed law enforcement sources, the newspaper said that the 17-year-old, who was shot on an MTA bus in the Bronx over the weekend, was wounded in a gang-related dispute and is the son of Mount Vernon Police Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Lackard.

The teen, who was shot in the chest, was treated at Jacobi Hospital and is expected to recover, according to the newspaper.

The teenager, whose name is not being released, is said to have "flashed a gang sign" at another teenager, setting off a scuffle and eventually led to gunfire, the sources told the Post.

Patch has not yet been able to independently verify the report from the Post's Larry Celona, Kevin Sheehan and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon.
