Volunteers Join Forces for National Public Lands Day

In celebration of a nation-wide campaign to steward local trails on public lands, twenty-six volunteers rolled up their sleeves on September 24th at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, restoring a natural trail that crosses the brook that gives this park its name. Employees of REI, a specialty outdoor retailer and the nation’s largest consumer co-op, and Westchester Parks Foundation worked alongside volunteers for 4 ½ hours to remove more than 18 trucks of invasive plants, and other natural debris. This newly restored earthen footpath leads to a steel bridge and connects a large field with a quiet picnic area in a forested area. Tibbetts Brook Park is a Westchester County Park.
