Yonkers Man Arraigned In Friend's Steak Knife Stabbing

They had been together at Easter dinner a few days before.

A 37-year-old Yonkers man is accused of killing a friend with a steak knife. Byron Stinson was was arraigned Monday and charged with Manslaughter in the First degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree, a class D felony.

Just before 4:30 a.m., April 24, prosecutors allege Stinson was seated in a car with Michael Federico, on Whetstone Avenue in Yonkers. Federico was in the driver’s seat and Stinson in the front passenger seat. The men argued. Stinson is charged with stabbing Federico in the neck, which caused his death a short time later.

Federico's aunt Kim Martin told News 12 afterward that the two had been friends. In fact, she said, they had been to her house for Easter dinner a few nights before. She guessed it was a drug deal gone bad.

Westchester County Court Judge David Zuckerman set bail at $250,000 bond or cash. Stinson is scheduled to return to court July 10.
