1. NYC Council Members And Actors Arrested In UN Protest (patch.com) — Midtown Manhattan streets became the center of a large protest as hundreds of demonstrators, including several New York City Council members and local candidates, blocked traffic near the United Nations during Benjamin Netanyahu's General Assembly appearance. Police arrested elected officials, actors and activists after they refused to clear the roadway, while inside the UN delegates staged walkouts and vocal opposition to Netanyahu's speech. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a prominent Netanyahu critic in New York, marked the day separately with a symbolic video message calling for peace.
   

2. New Program Will Allow New Yorkers To Get Free Tickets To The Met Opera (patch.com) — New Yorkers who haven't been to the Met Opera since 2019 can now enter a monthly lottery for 70,000 free tickets during the 2026–27 season. The city is partnering with the Metropolitan Opera and agencies like NYCHA, NYC Public Schools, and the New York Public Library to promote and distribute tickets across the five boroughs.
   

3. THWACK - Brooklyn Army Terminal09/26/26 through 11/15/26 (cityguideny.com) — New Yorkers can explore THWACK, a free weekend exhibition at Brooklyn Army Terminal that runs from September 26 through November 15 and celebrates the tools and craftspeople behind one of the city's largest manufacturing campuses. Visitors ride tricycles through a vast warehouse filled with large-scale photos of everyday objects, highlighting the intersection of New York City's creative and industrial economies along the harbor.
   

4. It's officially Dolly Parton Day, with parades, pink lights and book drives (nbcnewyork.com) — Manhattan has officially joined other communities in declaring Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day, honoring the late singer's legacy of music and literacy. While major celebrations are highlighted in cities like Nashville and New Orleans, New Yorkers are encouraged to mark the day by donating to Imagination Library, dressing up in Dolly-inspired style, or simply playing her music at home or work.
