“This year took an especially heavy toll on the roads around North Hempstead, leaving behind large amounts of dirt and debris,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth in a press release. “That is why this initiative is so crucial. It will improve the condition of our roads and make them safer for motorists. This is North Hempstead’s ‘spring cleaning.’”

Last year’s Operation: Clean Sweep collected 4 million pounds of debris, according to the Town of North Hempstead. Officials are expecting an even higher total this year.
