Huntington Student's Video Reveals Dangerous Impact of Distracted Teen Driving

A Huntington High School senior is taking part in in a video editing contest to show the dangers of distracted driving in teens.
Elias Goldman could receive thousands of dollars in prizes if he gets enough votes to win the Impact Teen Drivers distracted driving video contest, according to the Huntington Union Free School District.
Goldman wrote, filmed and produced the The Impact Teen Drivers contest video, which stars Huntington High School senior Isabelle Harman.

The video opens with Harman waking up, walking around her house, eating breakfast and getting into her car without taking her eyes off her cellphone. “Today, you are going to get into a car accident,” a sign in her room reveals.
Goldman’s video shows a harsh reality: teens have the highest crash rate in the country, according to a study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Why do teens crash their cars? It’s most likely because they’re distracted, according to the study.
About 963,000 drivers, ages 16 to 19, were involved in a police-reported crash in 2013, which caused 383,000 injuries and 2,865 deaths, AAA reported.

Goldman takes an interest in film and editing and plans to pursue his passion in college. He recently captured a Best in Show Award at the Long Island Media Arts Show at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, according to Huntington Public Schools.
