Detective Injured Chasing 15-Year-Old Car Thieves At Home Depot: NRPD

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A tip about a stolen vehicle led to the arrest of three teens, but not before a runaway car created a few moments of mayhem.
On Tuesday, shortly after noon, New Rochelle police were notified by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center that a stolen vehicle had entered New Rochelle and was heading into the Home Depot parking lot on Weyman Avenue. Detectives located the vehicle, which was occupied by three teens.
When detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects initially tried to escape the parking lot, but quickly decided to flee on foot instead. The vehicle was left in reverse when the driver jumped out and the vehicle collided into an unmarked police car causing a minor injury to the detective driving.

Two male suspects were caught after a brief foot pursuit into Home Depot. A third suspect, a female, did not flee and was caught in the vehicle. The suspects were not injured during this incident, but the detective sought medical treatment for minor injuries to his shoulder and back and later returned to work.
Two 15-year-old boys from Manhattan and a 15-year-old girl from the Bronx were arrested. Their names are being withheld because of their ages.

The driver was charged with felony assault, felony criminal possession of stolen property, felony criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
The male passenger was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
The female passenger was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property.
All three suspects have a return date for Family Court on Thursday.
