Tuesday morning's snow was a reminder that winter is near and road's will need cleaning.
The Town of Huntington Highway Department is actively looking to hire several contractors to tackle the snow and keep the 800 miles of town roads clear.
Superintendent William Naughton said that last year, the office signed up 220 contractors to supplement the town workforce.
Naughton said that a driver of a pickup truck with a plow will earn about $65/hour (depending on the weight of the vehicle and plow size). The department will also take larger trucks with a plow/sander. A helper in the truck with the driver gets paid $12.40 an hour. He also said that the department tries to keep contractors as close as possible to their neighborhoods to make travel faster and easier during a storm.
