Elwood Wheelchair Basketball Players Dribble for Disability Awareness
The Elwood Special Education Parent-Teacher Association sponsored the wheelchair basketball game in April.

A team of 14 Elwood students and faculty competed against the National Wheelchair Association Nassau County Kings men’s team to celebrate disability awareness month.
Elwood Special Education Parent-Teacher Association sponsored the wheelchair basketball game, which was held on Monday, April 30.

The team, the Elwood Knight Riders, was coached by Elwood Middle School student Meghan Chiodo.
Members of Elwood’s American Sign Language class kicked off the game by signing the National Anthem, which was sung by “D’Votion,” an aspiring music group from New York City.

The Nassau Kings narrowly defeated the Elwood Knight Riders with a final score of 54-52.
The game showed the community the wonderful contributions that people with disabilities have to offer, said Elwood SEPTA President Terri Zenobio.
“We strive to build a community that represents the diverse nature of Elwood that’s all inclusive where everyone’s strengths are represented and respected,” Zenobio said.
