All proceeds went to benefiting Sean Urda's family, along with two other Elwood families that suffered tragedies this year.

An Elwood-John H. Glenn High School student who recently passed away was honored during a lacrosse tournament in April.

All proceeds from the second annual “Elwood Classic” Lacrosse Tournament will help benefit Sean Urda’s family and two other Elwood families that suffered tragedies this year.

The tournament was hosted by the Elwood Union Free School District on Saturday, April 11. Elwood teams, boys and girls, in grades 2-8 competed against each other in several games of lacrosse.

A poster board with Urda’s high school jersey and photos were displayed at the tournament. Elwood lacrosse players were able to sign the poster with their name and jersey number.

“The Elwood Classic was an amazing day for lacrosse and for members of the Elwood community,” said Jonathan Guercio, one of the event organizers.

Along with Guercio, the event was coordinated by Kevin Lavey, Darren Szokoli and Jordan Endler. The entrance into the tournament required a team fee of $600, although all teams, regardless of the fee, were able to participate.

The tournament was sponsored by K&J Athletics, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of young athletes.
