Police Log: Motorcyle Refuses to Stop for Officers

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Saturday, May 9

At 3:30 p.m., police reported property damage in which a boat had a damaged windshield in Northport Harbor. The boat owner said the damage could have taken place between April 20 and May 9.

At 3:30 p.m., police assisted a woman who needed her car unlocked on Woodbine Avenue. Officers opened the vehicle with a car unlocking tool. No damages were reported.

Sunday, May 10

At 6:25 a.m., police reported a possible disturbance between a male and female on Main Street. Officers interviewed the suspects, who were extremely intoxicated, and reported no problems.

At 9:53 a.m., police reported fire activity in which there was smoke inside a home on Scudder Avenue. The Northport Fire Department determined the smoke was coming from an oil burner puffback. Firefighters ventilated the home.

At 2:04 p.m., police reported a disturbance in which two men were arguing over music at Village Park. Police said one man was playing amplified music and collecting money for it. Officers told him that his actions were violating village ordinance and he was asked to stop. The man left the area without incident.

At 6:07 p.m., police reported a suspicious event in which a man was sitting on a bench with a small knife next to him at Village Park. The man told officers he uses the knife to cut fruit. He agreed to put the knife in his car.

Monday, May 11

At 12:01 p.m., police reported fire activity in which there was a leaking propane tank on Willis Street. Firefighters arrived to the scene and made the tank safe.

At 1:37 p.m., police received a request from Asharoken Police to help with a motorcycle that was refusing to stop on Eatons Neck Road. The Asharoken supervisor canceled the pursuit.
