Driver Rescued From Flooded Piermont Pier: Police

Because of higher tides due to Hurricane Jose and the moon, Piermont Police have closed the pier.

PIERMONT, NY — A woman had to be rescued Tuesday morning on the Piermont Pier. Piermont police received a report of a person trapped in a vehicle on Ferry Road at 10:25 a.m., said Police Chief Mike O'Shea.

The village fire department and police department responded.

The driver walked out and a police officer transported her to get a ride from a family member. The car was towed.

"Most cars were fine," O'Shea said. "This was a small compact car, and water got in the exhaust pipe."

O'Shea said the department monitors the pier for flooding, specially during conditions are like this: tides affected by Tropical Storm Jose and the phase of the moon.
