Hudson Valley Below Zero: Hazardous Outlook Issued

Here's the latest.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Wind chills below zero are expected late Monday into Tuesday morning as temperatures range from 10 degrees at the southern end of the valley to 5 degrees mid-region, and that will be combined with northwest winds blowing from 10-20 mph.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous outlook and special weather statement for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties. (Dutchess and Ulster counties are more used to this kind of thing.)

When it's this cold, frostbite can occur in 10 minutes. So dress in layers, wear a hat as well as gloves or mittens and cover exposed skin. Warning signs of hypothermia are confusion, shivering, difficulty speaking, sleepiness and stiff muscles.

Tuesday will be sunny, with temps in the low teens. Wednesday temperatures will rise to around freezing.
