Nyack High School Science Instructor Named 'Teacher of the Year'
Physics, science research teacher wins prestigoius accolade

's Mary Foise has been named "Teacher of the Year" by Dobbs Ferry's Mercy College, standing out from a pool of educators from the Westchester/Rockland region.
Foise teaches physics to upperclassmen in addition to heading a science research course for students from grades ten to twelve. Nyack High School principal Jospeh Spero nominated Foise, describing her as a "strong instructional leader." Spero also noted her National Board Certification and work with the Advanced Science Research Program were other impressive qualities.
"I think it's great," said Foise, who was honored at a luncheon at the college earlier this week. "It speaks to the importance of science education—every student should have four years of science in high school."

"When I get this award it's not just for me," Foise added. "I share it with all the other teachers at Nyack High School. We share idea, we help each other."
Mercy College began the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" program to celebrate its sixtieth year as an educational institution. The program also honors educators from the Bronx and Long Island based on their ability to achieve results with students, demonstrate a positive impact and involve oneself with the community.
