Hudson Valley Hazardous Outlook: When Thunderstorms Are Possible
Here's what's coming after the unseasonable heat.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Severe thunderstorms could follow the heat causing every bud to pop Thursday, the National Weather Service said in updated hazardous weather outlooks for the region.
For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the area in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today and this evening. Strong to locally damaging winds will be the main threat. Brief heavy downpours are also possible.
For Dutchess and Ulster, there is a slight risk, with the main threat isolated to scattered damaging wind gusts which could result in downed trees, tree limbs and power lines.

It seems to be a classic hot-weather thunderstorm threat.
"Storms and showers to progress across the region between 3-9PM," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

"The storms will be the last gasp of a major storm system that roared across the nation's midsection this week and produced a fierce blizzard as well as damaging hail and tornadoes," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Behind the front will be cold and dry air. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 60s and by Sunday temperatures will be in the 50s.
