CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — Croton-on-Hudson officials are hosting a public forum Thursday so the community can learn more about the police reform and reimagining process mandated in New York by executive order.

The order mandates that local governments must perform a comprehensive review of current police force deployments, strategies, policies, procedures and practices; develop an improvement plan to address the particular needs of the communities served; and promote community engagement to foster trust, fairness and legitimacy and to address any racial bias and disproportionate policing of communities of color.

The mandate came in August, in the wake of nationwide protests after George Floyd died when a Minneapolis police officer held his knee on Floyd's neck for nearly 9 minutes.
