Croton Woman Named to Westchester Library System Board of Trustees

Karen Zevin of Croton-on-Hudson is the District I representative covering Croton-on-Hudson, Montrose and Yorktown.

The Westchester Library System welcomes Susan Morduch of Ardsley as the District VI representative covering Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Greenburgh, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Irvington and Karen Zevin of Croton-on-Hudson as the District I representative covering Croton-on-Hudson, Montrose and Yorktown. Both began a 5-year term as of Jan. 1.

Susan Morduch is a licensed psychologist and received her Ph.D. and Master of Education in school psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University and currently works with the CHE Senior Psychological Services in Croton where she conducts psychotherapy sessions with geriatric residents and consults with professional staff. Dr. Morduch has also had her own private practice since 2015. Previously, Dr. Morduch worked with the Ardsley Public Library for over 5 years and was responsible for: adult, teen and children’s collections; running teen programs; creation and maintenance of their website; and leading children’s storytimes, book clubs and special events.

Karen Zevin is a market researcher, analyst, and project manager with significant experience leading global qualitative and quantitative research and analysis engagements. Dr. Zevin received her B.A. from City College and was part of the Ph.D. program at Columbia University where she received an M.A. and M.Phil. in Sociology. She is a strong believer in education, literacy and critical thinking. To support her convictions, she has devoted time and effort to improving education and working with municipal government and library associations. Her non-profit experience includes 9 years as an elected School Board Trustee; leadership roles in regional school advocacy associations; Treasurer of the Croton Free Library; and involvement with the Village of Croton Financial Sustainability Committee. She led an advocacy effort to help government recognize the financial impact of education related to unfunded and under-funded mandates; testified before the education subcommittee of the NYS Assembly on the importance of security and privacy of student data; provided forecast models to her school district and municipality for better financial planning and helped her Library double donations in one year.

“We are pleased to have these talented and experienced individuals join our Board and look forward to their active participation,” said Terry Kirchner, WLS Executive Director. “Their diverse knowledge and extensive community engagement will bring new insight to the Westchester Library System.”

In addition, the WLS Board re-elected the following officers for 2017: Catherine Draper of Pelham as President; Mary Amato of Yonkers as Vice-President; Sean Ryan of Armonk as Secretary; and Edris Scherer of North Castle will continue as Treasurer.
