Westchester primaries include governor, lieutenant governor and two state assembly districts.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Westchester voters registered with the appropriate party had 10 days to vote in primaries for governor, lieutenant governor and state assembly.

New York voters have two primaries in 2022 before the general election Nov. 8, and early voting is available each time. The June 28 primary covers New York's governor, lieutenant governor and State Assembly races. The August 23 primary will cover congressional and state senate elections plus special elections for New York Congressional District 19 and the lieutenant governorship.

In the June GOP gubernatorial primary, registered Republican voters will choose which of four candidates — Rob Astorino, Andrew Guiliani, Harry Wilson or Lee Zeldin — will appear on the Republican Party ballot line in the November general election.

In the June Democratic primary for governor, registered Democratic voters will choose which of three candidates — Thomas R. Suozzi, Kathy C. Hochul or Jumaane D. Williams — will appear on that ballot line in November.

In the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, three people are running. Incumbent Antonio Delgado, who was appointed in May after Brian Benjamin resigned under indictment, was in his second term as a congressman for the 19th Congressional District in the Hudson Valley. He faces challenges from Ana Maria Archila and Diana Reyna.

The winner of the primaries for governor and lieutenant governor form an official ticket in the general election Nov. 8.

There is no Republican primary for lieutenant governor; Alison Esposito is the only candidate for that post on the Republican and Conservative lines.

There is a Democratic primary for Assembly District 95, where longtime Assemblywoman Sandra Galef is retiring. The district includes western Putnam and northwestern Westchester County. Dana Levenberg, Colin Smith and Vanessa Agudelo are on the ballot. The winner will face Stacy Halper on the Republican and Conservative lines and also Agudelo, on the Working Families party line.

There is also a Democratic primary in Assembly District 92, where incumbent Tom Abinanti is being challenged by County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky. District 92 includes the villages of Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Ardsley and part of the unincorporated section of Greenburgh.

There were nine days of early voting before each election. If you voted during the early voting period, you are not eligible to vote on Election Day.

For the June primary, early voting votes will be canvassed and reported after 9 p.m. June 28.

Westchester County’s Election Inspectors will now use Electronic Poll Books and Ballot-on-Demand systems.

You can find your polling place from the county's Board of Elections. For additional voting information, visit Vote411, an interactive Web site created and maintained by the League of Women Voters. The site supplies personalized ballots and polling locations simply by entering your home address.

Election integrity

The New York Attorney General's Office will make its Election Protection Hotline available for the upcoming June 28 election and during New York’s early voting period. The hotline will be available to troubleshoot and resolve a range of issues encountered by voters, including voting by absentee ballot due to the COVID-19 crisis or in-person at their polling place. Voters who experience problems can report issues to OAG by calling the new hotline number at (866) 390-2992, submitting complaints online, or emailing election.hotline@ag.ny.gov. The OAG also created a guide to address frequently asked questions to assist voters.

Editor's Note: Assembly District 92 was numbered incorrectly in a sentence in the original version of this report. Also Assembly District 95 was described incorrectly. The district includes western Putnam and northwestern Westchester County, not eastern Putnam or northeastern Westchester County. Patch regrets the errors.
