Letter to the Editor: Ossining Mayoral Election

The writer supports incumbent Mayor William Hanauer over his opponent, Trustee Virginia Gearity.

Dear Editor:

“IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT.” Ossining “ain’t broke” and certainly doesn’t need fixing by replacing our effective current mayor, Bill Hanauer.

Why the powers in the Democratic party decided to run a relatively inexperienced candidate to oppose Bill Hanauer is a mystery to me.

There seem to be no actual issues. The slogan is “A time for Change” which seems to translate to “young.” And, as an actively working senior citizen who has lived in Ossining for the past 13 years, I resent this. The culture of youth worship is fine for Glamour and Vogue magazines, but has no place in politics, where experience and effective performance should be paramount.

I plan to vote for Bill Hanauer for mayor on the Working Peoples’ Party. I hope you do, too.
