Ossining World War I Centennial Commemoration is Saturday

LIVE STREAM: Events are taking place across the nation for the Centennial Commemoration of the U.S. Entry into World War I.

OSSINING, NY — The Ossining World War I Centennial Commemoration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Park, Route 9 and Washington Avenue, to honor the many Ossining residents who served in World War I.

Immediately following this event there will be an unveiling of a memorial plaque at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at 58 South Highland Ave. in honor of Edmund Charles Clinton Genet (1896-1917).

"He was an Ossining-born and bred WWI fighter pilot who flew with the French Air Service’s Lafayette Escadrille and was Killed in Action in the skies of France," Miguel Hernandez explained on the Positively Ossining Facebook page.

April 6 is the actual anniversary. On that day in 1917, the United States officially entered World War I, a war that changed the nation and the world forever.

Thousands in attendance, as well as those watching video across the nation and around the world, can see the United States commemorate this turning point in our nation’s and the world’s history with the “In Sacrifice for Liberty and Peace: Centennial Commemoration of the U.S. Entry into World War I” ceremony, hosted by the United States World War One Centennial Commission at the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri.
