UPDATE: Primary Election Results in the Hudson Valley: Here are the Winners

Update: Check below for election results from the competitive primary elections in the Hudson Valley as they become available. Note that the below results do not reflect 100 percent of votes cast.

Local results

There were two Democratic primaries in Mount Vernon Tuesday — one for City Court Judge and one for Democratic Committee.
In the judge's race, Nichelle A. Johnson out-polled Tamika A. Coverdale, winning 71 percent of the vote. The unofficial tally from the Westchester Board of Elections is Johnson, 2993 votes to Coverdale, 1,235 votes.
In addition, Democratic voters could pick two new county committee members. Only 99 votes were cast. Walidah E. Duprey picked up 31 votes, for 31 percent of the total, and John M. DiGiovanni picked up 29 votes, for 29 percent of the total, which outpaced Roberta L. Apuzzo at 24 and Michael Justino at 15.

Registered Democrats were able to vote for three of the candidates. With 99 percent of the vote tallied, Victor Tafur—467; Keith Waitt—465; Leon Potok—434; Stuart Tiekert—354. Results are unofficial.

As of 12:43 a.m.:

Jamaal T. Bailey took 55 percent of the vote in the Democratic Primary to see who would run for the 36th State Senate District left by retired legislator Ruth Hassell-Thompson.

Alison Boak took 79 percent of the vote in the Democratic Primary to see who would run against incumbent Terrence Murphy in the 40th State Senate District.

Kevin Byrne had a commanding lead over Suzanne McDonough in the Republican Primary for the 94th New York Assembly district. He will face Democrate Brian Higbie.

In the 98th Assembly District, Aron Wieder pulled 75 percent of the vote in the Independence Primary and 66 percent of the vote in the Democratic Primary.

In that same district, Karl Brabenec received 55 percent of the vote in the Republican Primary.

District in Rockland County covers the towns of Clarkstown and Orangetown and the southern part of Ramapo, including the villages of Nyack, Piermont, South Nyack, Spring Valley, Suffern and the unincorporated communities of Blauvelt, Hillcrest, Monsey, Nanuet, Orangeburg, Pearl River, Sparkill, Tappan and Viola.

District includes Orange and Rockland counties. In Orange: Towns of Greenville, Minisink, Warwick, Deerpark, including Port Jervis, Monroe and Tuxedo. In Rockland: Northwestern part of the Town of Ramapo.

Worth noting:

Assembly: In District 94, the winner will face Democrat Brian M. Higbie in the general election. In District 97, the winner will face Jaffee (on the Working Families line) and Joseph S. Chabot on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform party lines.

In District 98, everyone but Allegro will have a line on the ballot in November.

Senate: District 38 was held for a long time by a Westchester resident, Ruth Hassell-Thompson, who has retired. None of the candidates in the primary are from Westchester. In November, the winner of the Democratic primary will face Robert Diamond, who is unopposed in the New York State Senate District 36 Conservative primary, and Bailey, who is also running on the Working Families Party ticket.

The winner of the District 40 Democratic primary will face incumbent Terrence Murphy in the general.
