Sixth Graders Experience Hudson River Museum Field Trip

During the field trip, students experienced hands on activities that offered explanations about our universe and how technology aids humans.

From Croton Harmon Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School: Sixth-graders from Croton-Harmon’s Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School found themselves tracing clues to identify planets, converting different-sized strings to astronomical units and calculating the weights of planets in our solar system during a recent trip to the Hudson River Museum.

“The planetarium there is amazing,” said sixth-grade teacher Lauren Scollins. “They do a fabulous job making it exciting, informational and relevant to what our students are investigating in class.”

The hands-on experiences offered at the museum tied in with the students’ study of our planets and the big ideas, such as the fact that much of the universe is still unexplored and that technology can aid humans in our understanding of the solar system.
