Woman Convicted For Using Credit Cards Stolen From Parked Cars

Last year the 36-year-old stole credit cards from cars parked at gyms across Suffolk County and used them to buy over $5K worth of stuff.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Brooklyn woman was convicted on Wednesday for stealing credit cards out of parked cars at gyms across Suffolk County and using them to buy over $5,000 worth of stuff last year, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini.

Tasnim Jeffries, a.k.a Tasnim Jeffriesel, 36, was convicted by a jury of five counts of fourth degree grand larceny and six counts of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, the DA said.

In six separate incidents between Feb. 26, 2019, and March 22, 2019, Jeffries stole credit cards or cash out of cars parked at various Suffolk gyms and then used the stolen cards to make retail purchases totaling $5,550.

According to the DA, Jeffries was charged in connection to the following incidents:

  • On Feb. 26, 2019, she stole a MasterCard credit card from a car parked at LA Fitness on 305 W Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station. She used the credit card at Best Buy on 148 Walt Whitman Road in South Huntington to buy two $400 gift cards.
  • On Feb. 26, 2019, she also stole a Discover credit card from a car parked at Retro Fitness on 1815 East Jericho Turnpike in Elwood. She used the credit card to buy an Apple iPad Pro for $1,000 at Target on 838 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore.
  • On March 15, 2019, Jeffries stole a Visa credit card from a car parked at World Gym on 225 Howells Road in Bay Shore. She used the credit card to buy $1,400 worth of goods at GameStop on 499 Sunrise Highway in Patchogue, including a $500 gift card and various electronics.
  • On March 22, 2019, she stole an American Express credit card from a car parked at Retro Fitness on 554 Commack Road in Deer Park. She used the credit card to buy two drill sets totaling $925 at Home Depot on 475 Commack Road in Deer Park.
  • On March 22, 2019, Jeffries stole $1,200 cash and a Visa credit card from a car parked at Retro Fitness on 1815 East Jericho Turnpike in Elwood. She used the credit card to buy $1,100 in electronics and other goods at Target on 98 Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack.
  • On March 22, 2019, she stole a Visa credit card from a car parked at Blink Fitness on 600 N Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst. She used the credit card to buy a Nintendo Switch for $325 at Target on 1149 Sunrise Highway in Copiague.

Following an investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Suffolk County Police Department, including a review of video surveillance and transaction records at the retail establishments, Jeffries was arrested on May 9, 2019.

Opening statements in the trial occurred on Tuesday. The jury deliberated for two hours before returning a verdict of guilty on all counts. Jeffries is scheduled to be sentenced by Suffolk County Court Judge Timothy Mazzei on April 9. She faces a maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.
