Peekskill Candidate Profile: Segarra For Common Council

Luis Segarra shares why he should be elected to the Peekskill Common Council in a Patch candidate profile for the 2019 election.

PEEKSKILL, NY — Westchester County has several contested races in this fall's election, including in Peekskill. Patch asked candidates in the contested races to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles until election day.

Luis A Segarra is running for a seat on the Peekskill Common Council.

He is part of a slate headed by Vincent A. Vesce for Mayor and including Lauren Brady, Marlon Mahon for Common Council. They are running on the bipartisan Peekskill Together ticket, which was endorsed by Conservative, Independence and Republican parties. Segarra, 53, is a Democrat.

Their opponents are Mayor Andre Rainey, Deputy Mayor Kathleen Talbot and council members Vivian McKenzie and Patricia Riley, running as a slate on the Democratic Party line.

Segarra is the co-owner and CFO of the Crescent Companies, consultants in diversity and equal employment opportunity, which he founded in Peekskill in 20o1.

The single most pressing issue facing our community, and what I intend to do about it.

Infrastructure, every time a city goes through a growth spurt the way Peekskill has, it becomes a stress on the City's Infrastructure, its roads, sidewalks, Sewer and Water lines.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The main difference is the amount of experience I have owning my own company overseeing the Company's Financial Operations and problem solving on a daily basis.

Budgeting and Management, Transparency & Honesty, Clean and Safe Streets and Parks, A Walkable City, Meaningful Environmental Progress, Our Seniors and Youth Programs.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Starting my business with 3 people and now having over 50 employees and 4 offices. Becoming the largest and most trusted consultant in the Diversity and Inclusion Industry.

The best advice ever shared with me was …

Never say you can't do anything, just go back and figure out how to get it done.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I'm the youngest of 12 children, and from an early age I was taught that in order for all of us to prosper we must all work together. As the Vice President of the Peekskill Rotary Club, I follow their motto of service above self.
