Pelham Students Participate in National History Day
Students researched and documented historic, cultural, and social experiences of the past using the theme 'Taking a Stand in History.'
From Pelham Public Schools: Nine PMHS juniors were recently selected by the grade 6-12 social studies department to advance in the annual National History Day contest.
The students, guided by their social studies teachers, researched and documented historic, cultural, and social experiences of the past based on the common theme “Taking a Stand in History.” The students, working individually or in groups, conducted primary and secondary research to create an exhibit, historical paper, live performance, documentary or website about a specific historical event or person who either took a stand, or decided not to. Through their work, the students analyze and interpret their sources and draw conclusions about the significance of their chosen topic.
Students are also required to include an annotated bibliography along with their project.

Winners were selected in each category and may continue to refine their projects if they choose to move on to the regional competition in March. If selected, the students might also advance to the state and national competitions.
Eighth graders at Pelham Middle School also participate in the project, and winners were announced last week following a presentation of their work in the library.
