Catholic Churches Kick Off Holy Week Saturday Night

There's a musical at CAP tonight.

The Plainview area's two Roman Catholic churches kick off Holy Week Saturday evening with Palm Sunday Vigil Masses. The feast, one week before Easter, marks the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem about 30 AD,  as recorded in the four canonical Gospels of the New Testament.

1. There are two Roman Catholic Palm Sunday Vigil Masses Saturday evening to kick off Holy Week around the community.  on Washington Avenue holds its service with the Blessing of the Palms at 5 p.m. on South Oyster Bay Road holds its Mass in the Upper Church, also at 5 p.m. Look to Patch this week for a comprehensive list of Holy Week and Passover services in and around Plainview.

2. The , presents the American composer William Finn's autobiographical musical "A New Brain." The 1998 musical, which opened off Broadway to critical success, is one man's story about conquering his fear of dying with his greatest songs still unwritten. While stuck writing stories for children's TV, a brain injury puts his life in perspective. Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets: $20.

3. The  invites kids ages 3-5 to listen to "Basil Birds" and other spring stories from 11 a.m. until noon. Afterward children will work together to make a picture of a flock of "Button Birds." Free; adult must be present.

4. The Nassau County in Roslyn has lots to offer, including a display of the poster art of the 1917 October Revolution. These graphic, inexpensively produced posters carried the Revolution’s message to the masses. Open from 11:00 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
