Modell's Opens Doors in Plainview Centre

Sporting goods store fills vacant space in plaza just in time for holiday shopping.

Modell's Sporting Goods has opened a new store in the Plainview Centre shopping plaza just in time for the holiday season.

The retailer, the first full-service sporting goods store in Plainview in some time, is held its grand opening ceremonies last weekend and will open Black Friday at midnight. Oyster Bay Councilwoman the store's general manager Gene Moscatelli, and other local officials attended.

"Many local leaders were on hand and wished us well," said John Borrelli, community ambassador of Long Island for Modell's. "It was a great weekend and there's a lot of excitement that we're here in Plainview."

“The local community is excited about the grand opening of Modell’s Sporting Goods in Plainview," Alesia said. "Many of our active residents will appreciate the convenience of having this renowned business centrally located in the heart of Plainview."

The store, the 178th to open in the Modell's chain, which spans the Northeast, is located at 391 South Oyster Bay Road. It occupies the void left by the former Rite Aid drug store at that location. For the holiday season, Modell's is employing a total of 40 people, Borrelli said.

It's normal business hours will be 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

Modell’s, founded in 1889 in lower Manhattan, is America's oldest, family-owned and operated retailer of sporting goods and apparel.
