Plainview Speech Therapist Offers Variety of Services

Plainview native Lori Melnitsky longed for a rewarding career - one where she could help others where she once struggled herself.

For nearly two decades, Melnitsky has practiced as a speech pathologist, aiding both children and adults with speech and language disorders.

"I recovered from a severe stuttering disorder and I wanted to help others overcome their problems speaking," said Melnitsky, who now holds a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and is Lidcombe trained in early childhood stuttering. "I want to provide parents with as much information as I can to help them help their children."

"I am very passionate about what I do," she added. "I want people who stutter to realize they can improve fluency and have successful lives." Melnitsky is also PROMPT certified and has completed training in fluency shaping.

Still living in Plainview today, Melnitsky felt it would be the perfect space to open her own practice. Eight years ago, she founded All Island Speech and Stuttering Therapy.

"I feel very supported by local residents," said Melnitsky. "My father owned a pharmacy in Old Bethpage for many years so I feel very comfortable here." Melnitsky graduated from the Plainview School District, where her daughters now attend.

All Island Speech and Stuttering Therapy sees a wide range of clients outside of Plainview as well. Patients from all corners of Long Island and beyond visit Melnitsky for speech, language, oral motor and stuttering treatments. For those who cannot make it to the Plainview practice, Melnitsky also offers therapy sessions via Skype.

Health insurance is not accepted at the office, but patients can receive a receipt to show their provider. Hours are by appointment only.
