Tips for Plainview Gardeners at Library

Adventureland is still open for spring break.

It may seem hard to believe, but just 65 years ago Plainview was a farming community, its biggest crop being cucumbers. Home gardeners can aspire to grow their own potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes and get some valuable tips by attending an afternoon session Monday at the Plainview Library.

1. The Plainview-Hicksville Garden Club meets Monday between 1:30 and 4 p.m. at the . The group's focus is creating awareness of nature and its beauty. Open to all.

2. Do you wonder about genetically altered food?  From 7-8 p.m. Monday, you can join Dr. Barbara Rosinsky for a lively discussion on genetically modified foods.  Learn what they are, why they have no place in your diet and how to avoid them.  There will be a question and answer period.  Light refreshments will be served and there is no fee for this session. Free, Open to All. 3. 's baseball team takes on  Mac Arthur at 10:30 a.m. at the high school.

4.  Adventureland Amusement Park, with rides, games, and food, has been open for spring break week, including Monday. The park is open from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Price: $21 for kids 4 feet and under, $25 for everyone taller.
