Coronavirus: Pleasantville Updates Residents On Local Response

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Mayor Peter Scherer sent out a notice to residents with an update about the village and the new coronavirus outbreak.

"As the coronavirus situation evolves, the Village is working closely with Westchester County, New York State, our local medical facilities, and our school district to assemble and share the best advice available to us," he said. "These are challenging times but, as we always have, we will support one another and get through this."

Please note the following:

• PUBLIC GATHERINGS: New guidelines from the Governor prohibit any gathering with 500 people or more. At smaller events, and throughout our daily activities, everyone should practice “social distancing.”
• HYGIENE: It is critically important that all of us practice good hygiene, avoid people who are sick, and stay home if feeling sick. That’s the best way to reduce risk to ourselves and those around us.
• MEDICAL CARE: If you develop symptoms like fever, cough or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention but CALL BEFORE YOU GO. If you are not experiencing severe symptoms, avoid hospital emergency departments, which are very busy at this time of year. Calling in advance protects you and helps prevent the spread of any illness.
• VILLAGE OFFICES: Village offices are open, but we need to limit exposure between residents and staff. We ask that residents avoid coming to Village offices whenever possible. Many tasks can be accomplished on the Village website, via e-mail, or by phone. Links are listed below.
• DROP-BOX FOR VILLAGE PAYMENTS: We have added a drop-box in the first-floor lobby at Village Hall that can be used to pay taxes, utility bills, and parking tickets. Please be sure to seal your payment in an envelope WITH a copy of the relevant bill.
• SENIOR CENTER: Our Senior Center has cancelled the St. Patrick’s Day lunch and trips. Activities and programs will temporarily be suspended starting Monday, March 16th. Our home-delivered meals for seniors will continue.
• TRASH DISPOSAL: Everyone MUST use plastic garbage bags when disposing of trash. Loose garbage is far more difficult to collect, and we need to minimize contact with trash when our sanitation crews are at work.
• RECREATION PROGRAMS: Panther Club and after-school activities will operate whenever the schools are open. The school district posts regular updates on their web site (www.pleasantvilleschools.org). Spring on-line registration will proceed, and we’ll be reporting on program status in the coming days and weeks.
• LIBRARY: This weekend, the library will be open on Saturday from 10-1. It will be closed on Sunday. Future hours are under review. Check the library website for current information (https://www.mountpleasantlibrary.org/).
• FARMERS MARKET: The Pleasantville Farmers Market will move outside to Memorial Plaza starting this Saturday (March 14) and will remain outside going forward. Hours are unchanged, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. There will be no entertainment or seating. Check the market web site for detailed information (www.pleasantvillefarmersmarket.org). Do not go the Middle School.
