Wrong-Way Crash on I-87 Results in Injuries, Arrest

The wrong-way driver was alleged to be intoxicated and in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

A 29-year-old South Carolina man was arrested on Driving While Intoxicated and related charges early Saturday in connection with a multi-vehicle wrong-way accident on I-87 in Yonkers.

Details of the 12:17 a.m. crash, and the exact number of vehicles involved, were not disclosed, but according to state police several people in those vehicles were treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Saturday’s wrong-way crash is the latest in a rash of such accidents in the Hudson Valley over the past couple of years, some of which are listed in the links below.

He was charged with the following:

  • Driving While Intoxicated, Misdemeanor
  • Reckless Endangerment 2nd, Class A Misdemeanor
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree, Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana

McNamee was held pending arraignment at the City of Yonkers Court.
