HUDSON VALLEY, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help out through the holidays and help others.

Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need.

Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering from home.

Today's opportunity is for the Sharing Shelf, which is a clothing bank for children. The organization is asking volunteers to donate gently used winter items for children and teens — size 4T through Youth XL (14-16) — to help combat clothing insecurity and meet basic material needs among low-income children and families in the community. This is a great opportunity to do some closet cleaning while doing some good, organizers said. For more information, or to express interest, go here.
