Port Jeff Students Honored for Physical Education Leadership

Five students were named Suffolk Zone Award honorees by the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

From the Port Jefferson School District: Five students from the Port Jefferson School District were named Elementary and Middle School Suffolk Zone Award honorees by the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. They were honored at a ceremony at Bay Shore High School.

Edna Louise Spear Elementary School fifth-graders Joseph Aronica, Julia Fite and Olivia Masino and Port Jefferson Middle School eighth-graders Lucy DeWitt and Richard Melucci were chosen by their physical education teachers for demonstrating strong leadership and character traits in physical education as well as a commitment to academics.

“These students exemplify the core leadership values of our school and athletic community,” said Dr. Danielle Turner, the district’s director of health, physical education and athletics. “This honor recognizes their collective commitment to physical education and serving as role models for their peers.”
