Port Jefferson Named Among Best Communities For Music Education
Port Jefferson School District has been ranked among the NAMM Foundation's 2020 Best Communities for Music Education in America.
Press release from Port Jefferson School District: In recognition of its commitment to music education, the Port Jefferson School District has been ranked among the NAMM Foundation’s 2020 Best Communities for Music Education in America. The honor acknowledges schools and districts across the country for their dedication to and support for music education as part of the core curriculum. One of only 754 school districts across the nation, this is the 14th consecutive year that Port Jefferson has received the prestigious national recognition.
The district boasts numerous vocal, band and orchestral performing groups and students are provided with numerous opportunities to perform within the community. Additionally, through partnerships with Stony Brook University, local orchestras and other community groups, students have the additional benefit of learning from renowned professional musicians. Port Jefferson students have also shared their talents on the stages of the Staller Center, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
“We are once again honored for the commitment of our educators, the eagerness of our students and the ongoing support of our administrators, board of education and community in recognizing the importance of music instruction in a well-rounded education,” said Dr. Michael Caravello, the district’s director of music and fine arts.
